In Persian miniature painting, nature is not simply depicted; it is reimagined. Mountains become rhythmic patterns, trees develop distinctive forms, and flowers, clouds, and streams become part of a carefully composed visual world.
During the nine sessions, we will explore how Persian painters have represented the natural world through distinctive approaches to form, line, colour pattern and composition. Through looking at some manuscript paintings, practical drawing and painting demonstrations and guidance, participants will discover the artistic principles underlying this tradition.
In this course, you will learn how to:
Draw natural elements commonly found in Persian miniatures: mountains & rocks, clouds, trees, flowers, shrubs, and streams.
Incorporate these elements into a composition by recreating a landscape from an old manuscript painting while adding your own touches.
Prepare the paper for painting.
Transfer your design onto the prepared paper.
Mix and apply colours.
Use different brush techniques, including outlining, shading, and rendering fine details.
The course will run online over nine weeks with each session lasting 120 minutes. The classes will be held in a group format; but, participants will also be able to send their practice work to the tutor and receive individual feedback.
The course is designed to introduce the basic techniques of Persian miniature painting and move forward step by step. Participants with previous experience are also welcome and will receive the instruction based on their level of experience. All levels of skills are welcome.
Please note that all sessions will be recorded, and you will receive the access link within a few hours of the live session. If you wish to rely on the recorded class, you will get the full help and support throughout the course.
A list of the required materials will be provided upon registration.
